Watson-North Funeral Home is honored to be of service and ministry to the family of Mr. William Dean Gibson, age 92 of Decherd. Mr. Gibson passed away at his home on the morning of September 6, 2019. He was born and raised in Akron, OH. After completing his high school education he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served in Company B 188th Airborne Infantry Regiment. He trained in Fort Benning, GA in The Infantry School and was awarded the Parachute Badge. After his honorable discharge from the Army he settled in Alto and went to work as a carpenter for TVA until he reached retirement. In his retirement years he used his carpenter skills and talent and built several homes, mostly for various family members, including his mother and father. He also accumulated a number of rental properties and occupied his time maintaining them. In his later years, Mr. Gibson kept his mind sharp and active by constantly working crossword puzzles. He also played a weekly game of poker and was considered a very successful winner. Mr. Gibson is preceded in death by his wife, Bettye Young Gibson; his mother, Emma Crystal Wintrow Gipson and his father, William Oscar Gipson; sister, Faye Keller and brother, Robert Gipson. He is survived by his daughter, Carla Gibson of Sparta, TN; sons, Randall Gibson of Monteagle, Greg Gibson of Decherd and Kenneth Gibson of Toronto, Canada; sister-in-law Peggy Gipson of Decherd; former daughter-in-law, Dana Williams of Texas. The family will receive friends at Watson-North Funeral Home Tuesday September 10, 2019 between the hours 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The funeral service will commence at 3 p.m. in the Roy B. Watson Chapel of Watson-North Funeral Home. Mr. Gibson will be laid to rest at Mt. Garner Cemetery in Decherd alongside his late wife, Bettye. Friends and family members will serve as pallbearers.
