Watson-North Funeral Home is honored to be of service and ministry to the family of Mr. Alton Roger Jolley. Mr. Jolley passed from this life on his 84th birthday, August 27, 2022, at Franklin Manor in Winchester. He is preceded in death by his mother, Veola White Jolley, his father, Alton Avro Jolley and his brother, Orin (Margaret) Jolly. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy Ruth Jolley of Decherd; children, Terry (Alison) Jolley of Murfreesboro, Cynthia (Jacob) Gray of Tullahoma, Darrell (Jacqualine) Jolley of Belvidere, David (Heather) Jolley of Estill Springs. He is also survived by a nephew, Baxter (Louise) Jolley of Mooresboro, NC; grandchildren, Claire Jolley, Will Jolley, Ava Jolley, Hadley Jolley and Ryan Jolley. Mr. Jolley was a native of Mooresboro, NC and was a graduate of Mooresboro High School. He received an Associate Degree from Gardner-Webb College (now Gardner-Webb University) in North Carolina. He continued his education at Carson Newman University in Jefferson City, TN where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree. He earned a Master’s Degree from Middle Tennessee State University. Mr. Jolley taught Junior High science for two years in Jefferson County, TN. He taught history and government at Franklin County High School for another 46 years. He also served as a coach or assistant coach in various sports as needed and was an adjunct professor of history at Motlow College. Mr. Jolley was a member of Southside Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher and song leader. He spent his spare time as a teacher grading papers, preparing lesson plans coaching, mowing yards and serving as a volunteer for the Franklin County Salvation Army. Following his retirement he found great pleasure in watching his grandchildren play sports and performing in recitals. He enjoyed watching games shows and was an avid fan of Braves baseball. He was a member of Decherd Lions Club and also served as Alderman in Decherd. For several years he worked for Walmart, eager to assist anyone with anything. The family will receive friends Tuesday August 30, 2022 between the hours of 5 and 8 p.m. at Watson-North Funeral Home. The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday August 31, 2022 at 2 p.m. from the Roy B. Watson Chapel of Watson-North Funeral Home with Rev. Duane Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Watson-North Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be John Estes, Brett Green, Tim Little, Randall Brewer, Todd Payne and Randy Partin. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Wilson Kelley, Will Jolley and Jacob Gray. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions Southside Baptist Scholarship Fund, Decherd Lions Club or the charity of one’s choice.
