Martha Faye Oliver Porter, 71 of Winchester heard the master’s call and went into eternal rest on Friday, August 14, 2020 in Decherd, Tennessee surrounded by her loved ones. She was born August 28, 1948 in Cowan, Tennessee to the late Hoye and Louise Oliver. Martha was educated in the Franklin County school system and the Bedford County School System, and graduated from Shelbyville Central High School. Following high school graduation, Martha worked many years in Manufacturing and found a new passion to serve others as a caregiver which she retired from in 2013.
Martha was of the Christian faith and attended Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Cowan where she was a devoted member and a devoted usher and attended regularly until her health began to decline. She enjoyed her weekly visits to the senior citizens group where she played Bingo and attended their luncheons and craft sessions. She was married to James Porter for 23 years and to this union they had one beloved daughter, Dadra “Denise” Porter.
In addition to her parents, Martha is preceded in death by her beloved niece, Trina Simmons Skillen. She leaves to cherish her memories to her daughter, Denise Porter of Nashville; sister, Mary Oliver Ajeh of Tampa, Florida; brother, Larry (Angela) Price of Chattanooga; her loving granddaughters, Brittany Porter and Keshia Porter; loving grandson, Hoye “Mandell” (Brooke) Porter all of Winchester; loving nephews, Bruce Simmons of Bloomington, Illinois and Joseph (JJ) Simmons of Tampa, Florida; eight great-grandchildren, Khiya, Samuel, Makel, Rashawn, Madison, Makenzie, Maliki, and Alliyona; devoted friends, Frances Bass, and Patricia Farris; very special caretaker, Gayle Kochans; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends. She also stayed in touch with beloved sisters-in-law through the years.
Visitation, Saturday, August 22, 2020 between the hours of 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m. at Watson-North Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Roy B. Watson Chapel. Interment will follow at Watson-North Memorial Park. To adhere with CDC COVID-19 safety measures, those attending services are asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
