Watson-North Funeral Home is honored to be of service and ministry to the family of Sue Smith, age 77 of Winchester. A native of Taylorville, IL, she and her late husband had made their home in Winchester much of their married life, having established a family business Gentlemen’s & Ladies Choice in 1983. Gentlemen’s & Ladies Choice was a well-known hair salon located on the “boulevard” in Winchester. Following the death of her husband, she continued working as a hairdresser until she retired from the business in 2011. Her sons will remember their mother as a devout Christian, who accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior at the age of 14. Throughout her life she made reading her Bible a part of her daily routine and she lived by the teachings she learned from the Bible. In addition to reading her Bible, she was an avid reader of every type of literature, ranging from current events to romance novels. She was a great fan of gospel music, the Gaithers in particular. She was a wonderful cook, but she had a true passion for baking, especially various types of bread. Her love for working in the kitchen and cooking made her quite the collector of kitchen gadgets. Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Fred T. Smith; her mother, Cora Lee Gibbs Drake and her father, Barney Drake. She is also preceded in death by a sister, Ethelene Gipson and a brother, Stanley Shrum. She is survived by her sons, Thomas W. Smith of Camano Island, WA, Bobby Lee Smith and his wife, Patricia Lynn of Murfreesboro and Brian Christopher Smith of Winchester; sister, Mary E. Drake of Estill Springs; brothers, Jim Shrum of Lincoln Park, MI, Glen Drake and wife, Hannalore of Smithville, TN, Barney Drake and wife Faye of Punta Gorda, FL and James Thomas Drake and wife Sandy of Murfreesboro, TN. She also leaves two grandchildren, who were the apple of her eye, Caleb Aaron Smith and Hailey Claire Smith. The family will receive friends at Watson-North Funeral Home on Wednesday March 3, 2021 between the hours of 5 and 8 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted from the Roy B. Watson Chapel of Watson-North Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Thursday March 4, 2021 with Rev. Ray Gardner officiating. Mrs. Smith will be laid to rest alongside her husband in Watson-North Memorial Park.
