James Robert Liechty

February 7, 1943 ~ August 25, 2020 (age 77)


Watson-North Funeral Home is honored to be of service and ministry to the family of Mr. James Robert Liechty, age 77 of Leeds Alabama.  Mr. Liechty passed away Tuesday August 25, 2020 at his home with his daughter Marie at his side.  Throughout his journey in life, he touched the lives of many as a provider, a loyal and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a friend to many.  A man that was humble to a fault, he was an electrical engineer by education and trade but he far exceeded that title in his skill.  Ever questioning, he worked to understand and perfect everything in his pursuit. Over his life, he was a boy scientist, a radio enthusiast, mechanic, an avid reader of science fiction, a rocket scientist, engine builder, racing enthusiast , pit crewman, train nut, amateur radio operator, practical machinist, shooter, re-loader and marksman.  He will be remembered for his unique sense of humor, sharp wit and a genuine smile.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Marie Frassrand Liechty and his mother, Mary Elizabeth Eichenberger Liechty.  He is survived by his twin children, Marie S. Liechty and John Robert (Candy) Liechty; father, Gerald A. Liechty; sisters, Diane (Bill) Gilpin and Melissa Liechty(Ken) Kasweck); granddaughter, Ashley Elizabeth (Eric) Jackson.  The family will receive friends Saturday August 29, 2020 between the hours of 9 and 10 a.m. at St. Theresa’s of the Child Jesus Catholic Church in Leeds AL. The funeral Service will follow in the church sanctuary with Fr. E. Gray Bean officiating.  Mr. Liechty will be brought to Winchester where a graveside service will be conducted Monday August 31, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. at the First United Church UCC in Belvidere with the Rev.
