Henrietta (Garner) Blackburn

December 20, 1936 ~ November 22, 2021 (age 84)


BLACKBURN, Henrietta “Retta” (Garner), age 84, born December 20, 1936 in Sherwood, TN to William and Lillian Garner.  She passed away at her home peacefully on Monday, November 22, 2021 with her family by her side.  Retta attended East High School in Nashville, Tn.  She was proceeded in death by her husband of 45 years, Robert C Blackburn, Sr.  She was an elder at the Sewanee Church of God located in Sewanee, TN.  She was employed at McClure Hall at The University of the South for over 25 years and was loved by everyone.  She loved to travel and go shopping; she especially enjoyed getting her nails and hair done.  She spent most of her time with her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She loved to cook and her favorite meal was breakfast.  She loved to listen to music and her favorite song was Unchained Melody by the The Righteous Brothers.  Retta was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and a friend to all. 

Retta is survived by her children Bob (Amy) Blackburn of Estill Springs, Tn., Kim (Rod) Box of Goodlettsville Tn., Chuck Blackburn of Estill Springs Tn., Darlene (Steve) Davis of Trussville Al., Todd (Janice) Blackburn of Bowling Green Ky. Her grandchildren Chris (Amanda) Blackburn, Phillip (Jodi) Blackburn, Jeremy (LeAnn) Hardin, Jennifer (Darrell) Davenport, Aimee Blackburn, Kelsey Blackburn, Amber (Joshua) Riggins, April (Shane) Mitchell, Sasha Davis, Faith (Geovanny) Saldana, Melanie Blackburn and her great grandchildren Cory Blackburn, Kaleb Blackburn Isabelle Blackburn, Presley Blackburn, Greyson Blackburn, Irelynn Blackburn, Ashelin Hardin, Zoie Hardin, Fynlee Hardin, Daniel Davenport, Anderson Riggins, Chandler Scott, Saxton Mitchell and many Nieces and Nephews and a special nephew Mark (Alma) Welsh and four legged best friends, Bailey, Lulu, Scruffy, Honey and Keekee.

She is preceded in death by her father, William Edward Garner; Mother, Lillian Leona (Henley) Garner; brothers & sisters, Kathryn Riddell, Nancy Welsh, Peggy Crunk, Norma Garner, Bobby Joe Garner, Robert Lee Garner; twin siblings, Billy Joe and Betty Jo Garner; husband: Robert C. Blackburn Sr. and daughter, Cynthia Shay (Blackburn) McCarley
