Watson-North Funeral Home is honored to be of service and ministry to the family of Mrs. Shella Patton, age 82 of Decherd. Mrs. Patton passed from this life in the early morning hours of Monday May 20, 2019. A lifelong resident of Franklin County, she attended Sewanee Elementary School where she played basketball in her 8th grade year. She went on to attend Franklin County High School, graduating with the class of 1953. She found her way to Alto Elementary School where she was a cook in the school cafeteria and took up coaching the basketball team, leading them to several championships. Throughout her long life she never lost her deep and sincere enthusiasm for sports every kind and teams across the nation, especially all the UT teams. Following her coaching days, she took a job at Lanier Industries where she worked for 23 years, retiring in 1995. She will be remembered as a very gifted cook. Her family will forever cherish their memories of the wonderful times they shared at their home on Friday evenings when, for many years, she would spend the day preparing a spread ranging from steaks to ribs to hamburgers for her family and anyone else who wanted to attend. Shella is preceded in death by her mother, Helen Long and her father, Carl Long; her husband of 49 years, Wayne Patton; sisters, Mignon Graves and Carlene Long. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Helen “Bug” Clark of Decherd and Linda (John) Davenport of Winchester; sons, Dennis (Theresa) Patton and Timmy Patton, all of Decherd; Tony (Karri) Patton also of Winchester; grandchildren, Lee (Jenny) Patton, Leslie Patton, Lane Davenport, Emily (Bill) Mitchell, Anrae (Marty) Finney, Rachel Clark, Katy Davenport, Jay Patton, Lena Clark, Hayden Davenport and Sam Patton; great-grandchildren, Meyrek Patton, Claire & Celeste Patton, Wyatt Finney, Connor Mitchell, Taylor Mitchell and one more great-grandchild on the way; sister, June Thomas of Monteagle, TN, and a host of cherished nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. The Patton family will receive friends at Watson-North Funeral Home Wednesday May 22, 2019 between the hours of 5 and 8 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted from the chapel of Watson-North Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Thursday May 23, 2019.
