Watson-North Funeral Home is honored to be of service and ministry to the family of Mr. Charles Edwin “Red” Turner, age 94 of Winchester.  Mr. Turner passed away at Lynchburg Nursing Center April 24, 2018.  Mr. Turner was a lifelong resident of Franklin County.  He was a hard-working man of the highest integrity who worked from a young age.  He eventually enlisted in the U. S. Army and served in WW ll in Guadalcanal. In his military service he trained as a truck driver and served in the bakery and laundry service.  Following his military service he returned to Tennessee and began his working career at Tullahoma Auto Parts Store.  In 1954 he left the auto parts business and worked at AEDC until his retirement in 1985.  Mr. Turner had been a devoted member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church since 1970.  He was a member of the Marble Plains Masonic Lodge until it merged with the Winchester Lodge where he achieved the title of 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner.  He spent many a year as a fundraiser for the Shriners Children’s Hospital participating loyally in the annual newspaper drive.   Mr. Turner is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Virginia.  In addition he is preceded in death by mother, Josie Brandon Turner and his father, Louis Turner; sisters, Mae Brazier and Maggie Turner; brothers, Earl and Everett Turner.  Mr. Turner is survived by his daughter, Elaine (Bob) Cagle of Lewisburg; son, Kent (Dottie) Turner of Winchester; grandchildren, Brett Turner (Lauren Lancto) of Nashville, Charleigh (Seth) Steelman of Birmingham, Jenna Turner (Logan Harper) of Lynchburg; special caregivers, his niece, Oneiva Brazier and great-niece Regina Thomas; several nieces and nephews.  Mr. Turner’s family will receive friends at Watson-North Funeral Home on Thursday April 26, 2018 from 5-8 p.m.  The funeral ceremony will be conducted from the Roy B. Watson Chapel of Watson-North Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Friday April 27,   2018 with Rev. David Rash and Charles Caldwell officiating. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Gardens with his Masonic brothers serving as pallbearers.  For those who so desire, memorial contributions may be made to www.shrinershospitalforchildren.org.
