Life Legacy
Robert E. Taylor, the son of the late Elsie Brannon Taylor and Alfred Taylor, was born in Belvidere, Tennessee, on April 11, 1932, and departed this life on July 20, 2010. He was one of nine children born into this union. For more than 50 years, he was visible all around town. He was known, loved, and respected throughout the Franklin County community.
In 1963, he married Idella Jackson Taylor of Stevenson, Alabama, and became the proud father of five children, all of whom survive.
Deacon Taylor was a lifelong, diligent, and faithful member of Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church. He was an ordained deacon and served in numerous capacities. He was a central force in the development and growth of Mt. Olive and the Friendship Primitive Baptist Association. Deacon Taylor was known for his ability to sing, most particularly Primitive Baptist hymns, and he taught others to sing hymns as well. Also, he was member of the former Franklin County Men Chorus.
He is preceded in death by brothers, James Taylor and Bennie Fitzpatrick, Jr., and sisters, Jeannie Mae Petty and Pauline Taylor.
In addition to his wife, Idella Taylor, he is survived by children Elgin Jackson and wife, Bobbye of Talladega, Alabama; Betty Jackson of Oakland, California; Patricia Jackson Farris and husband, Aaron of Winchester, Tennessee; Odis Jackson and wife, Rose of Cowan, Tennessee, and Emma Grace Jackson Reed and husband, Richard, of Winchester, Tennessee; nine grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Siblings are Lina Fitzpatrick Lewis and Dorothy Fitzpatrick Taylor and husband Howard, and Lionel Fitzpatrick, William Fitzpatrick and wife Vickie, all of Winchester, Tennessee, and Carlton Fitzpatrick of Shelbyville, Tennessee. Brother-in-law, William Liggins of Atlanta, Georgia, and Sister-in-law, Mamie Pruitt of Jamaica, New York. Additional survivors include an aunt, Christian Brannon of Elyria, Ohio, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service was conducted Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 1pm at the Mount Olive Primitive Baptist Church. Interment followed in Franklin Memorial Gardens. On-line condolences may be sent to www.watsonnorth.com
