Welcome to the memorial page for

Jean Norman (Carter) Raulston

September 28, 1930 ~ December 18, 2016 (age 86)

Jean Carter Raulston, born September 28, 1930, of Alto Tennessee passed away quietly at her home on December 18, 2016 after a long confinement.  Born in Henrico, Virginia, she was the youngest in a family of three children raised by Charles Keene and Katherine Davis Carter.  She attended  the University of Tennessee where she met and later married Hugh S. Raulston after  his return from Japan at the end of World War II.  Following their marriage, they settled in Alto where she lived for the rest of her life.

Mother of a son and a daughter, she was a superb homemaker in an era when that was a high calling.  A devoted horse lover all her life, she later worked at the University of the South, teaching in the school’s equestrian program and eventually served as the equestrian program director.  She was a member of the DAR.  Through the years she cultivated many friends.

She is survived by one sister, Dr. Shirley C. Olsson, of West Point, VA; her two children, Hugh S. Raulston, II (Sheryl) of Franklin Virginia, and Katherine D. Raulston (Tim) of Palmdale, CA; four  grandchildren, Carter Raulston, Christopher Raulston, Lindsay Raulston, and Sean Raulston; and one greatgrandchild.  Our heartfelt thanks go to the Pat and Ray Stevens family for their undying devotion to our mother.  A private memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.  Memorial donations may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, Alto, Tennessee, or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
